A Single Woman's Journey To Motherhood

Name:
Location: Washington, United States

I began my TTC journey in January 2005. It finally worked with the 5th IUI and along came Eliana! I started trying for a second (T42) a little over a year later, and was thrilled to get pregnant on the second try this time. Jacob soon joined our family! Not sure if I am done at two, but come along for my journey in motherhood. If you stop by, please leave me a short note! I like to know when I have visitors. :)

Disappeared

So a couple of you have asked about the date guy...he has pretty much disappeared. Disappointed, yes, but I can deal. My membership is good for another 5 months I think yet, so who knows what can happen.

Well, there's your update...Can you believe Ellie's birthday is just 5 days away????

Sippy update

I don't know if I won the battle that quickly or it was the third type of sippy for the day that did the trick. At supper, she drank 4 ounces from her sippy cup and about another 3 at bedtime. Woohoo!

Frustrated

The babysitter has been giving Eliana her fluids in a sippy cup for well over a month. No problems, Ellie drinks it all up with no complaints. At home, however, is a different story. I have tried once before, when the babysitter first started giving Ellie sippies as I thought, good, we will try that at home too. Eliana refused to drink for an entire day at which point I panicked and gave her a bottle.

So, since Eliana is feeling better today, I thought, let's try this again (note: even on Friday when she was REALLY sick, she drank from a sippy for the babysitter). She drank a little under an ounce, and then kept throwing the cup, arching her back, and screaming. Eventually, I took the lid off and was able to get her to drink another ounce just from the cup, but quite a bit spilled down her face and of course, I had to do the tipping, she didn't even touch the cup.

How long will this last? It is so frustrating as she screamed practically the whole morning until about 20 minutes ago when i gave her a pacifier, at which point she went down for a nap.

We have tried all different kinds of sippy cups, including ones with straws. She likes the straw ones best and we do water and pedialyte (when needed) in those all the time. This morning I tried her formula in the same kind of sippy cup the babysitter uses (in fact the exact same one she drank from on Friday).

I know they are supposed to be weaned from a bottle at or around 1 year, so I thought it should be fairly easy now that she drinks ALL fluids from a sippy for the babysitter...but nope.

OK, this is rambling, but I welcome advice from you moms out there!

Some thoughts

Just a bunch of thoughts while Eliana takes another nap.

First, I love listening to her babble in her crib. This morning she woke up from her nap and just kept saying "uh oooohhhh, uh ooooohhhhh" Man...that is just the cutest sound in the world. :)

Second, I hate seeing her sick. She really got it bad this week and yesterday slept probably close to 20 hours! She was just so sick, it breaks your heart.

I am very excited to say that we have almost made it to one whole year at breastfeeding. These days she is probably on half formula, half breastmilk, but I truly believe some is better than none. I have also decided to let her self-wean from these last nursing sessions (morning and evening with the occasional afternoon, especially on weekends). Of course, since she bit me for the first time last night...TWICE, I may rethink that...LOL.

Due to possible continued breastfeeding, I may not start T42 this summer as I had planned. I have yet to get my cycles back and suspect I won't until I have completely stopped breastfeeding for a while...I may even need to do a round of Provera to kickstart it all again. I am not too sad about holding off. While I thought 2 years was a good age difference, I look at Eliana and just keep thinking that she is still my baby and I am not ready for her not to be...Of course, I will keep my options open and may change my mind at will. :)

I really enjoy the stage that she is in now. She is starting to really interact with you. She started signing more, even putting more and milk together, this weekend. It is so wonderful to know what she wants! LOL. She loves to practice walking with you holding her hands. She is starting to throw a ball at you to play "ball". It is just so fun! I love being a mom!

Valentine's Day

So, I hate Valentine's day, always have. This year was no different and I certainly hate being at a high school on Valentine's day.

BUT, when I went to pick up Eliana at the babysitter's, my heart melted when I was given a card and some chocolates, from Eliana of course;) According to T (babysitter), Eliana picked out the card from a few choices and it was a very cute card. :) A week or so ago, they had made me a valentine's gift as well with her hand and foot prints. I have an awesome babysitter!

In the meantime, Eliana has been sick and I hope she gets better soon...I hate seeing her sick.

Great date!

So, I met with G for brunch today and had a great time. We visited at the restaurant for about two hours and then took a stroll around the nearby mall. There is even talk of a second date next weekend...

He did finally ask about Eliana's "father", and while he was definitely surprised I would say by the answer, it didn't seem to scare him away at all. He certainly had a lot of questions about the details, but again, he seemed OK with it. We discussed children and he would like more (a son), so that is good.

In all, he was just a really nice guy, a gentleman, and I look forward to getting to know him more.

Tomorrow

I feel a bit like a school girl...the "date" is set for tomorrow at 11:00. We are meeting for brunch while my friend watches Ellie...I am so nervous and excited it is ridiculous. I hope I sleep tonight! LOL
