A Single Woman's Journey To Motherhood

Location: Washington, United States

I began my TTC journey in January 2005. It finally worked with the 5th IUI and along came Eliana! I started trying for a second (T42) a little over a year later, and was thrilled to get pregnant on the second try this time. Jacob soon joined our family! Not sure if I am done at two, but come along for my journey in motherhood. If you stop by, please leave me a short note! I like to know when I have visitors. :)

What fun!

OK, I just spent WAY too much of my day doing this today, but as the date approaches, I realized I really needed to get on this. So, I have finally updated my baby registry. I had a gentle reminder since next week I need to send off my gift for an online baby shower for the due in May board, and I realized I wasn't even sure what I had on my registry for the person sending something to me. LOL. If you want to take a peek, feel free to click on the link in the title of this post. :)

I can't believe that today marks the first of the third trimester and that I am having this baby within 9-11 weeks! 9 weeks sounds sooooo soon! I have GOT to clean out that baby's room..but WHERE do I put everything that is in there??? My babysitter has offered to help, which is wonderful and greatly appreciated, but I need to have a game plan for where to put things if we are ever going to be successful. While talking to my mom today, it sounded like she might come out for a little bit next month too and help me have a garage sale to unload some of Eliana's clothes...

The discomforts of pregnancy are certainly piling on for me lately. I don't remember being this uncomfortable with Eliana. If standing or walking for a while (like say, more than 5-10 minutes), I get braxton hicks contractions, or at least, I think that is what they are, as well as stabs and jabs in my cervix. Now, as of the last two days or so, when sitting for more than 5 minutes, I feel like I was punched in that whole area, or kind of like I unwittingly did the splits...that is about the best I can describe it, I guess. In any case, uncomfortable to say the least..So, while 9-11 weeks sounds really soon, some moments it can't be soon enough!

Chugging along..

I am so sorry for my very infrequent updates. I just can't seem to find enough hours in the day, and I am always so tired (and yet, never get to bed early it seems...).

Things have been going quite well lately. At my OB appointment in January, the OB said we had found a "delicate balance" for all my issues right now...BP was good, blood sugars good, baby doing well.

When I saw him early February, things continued to be good, though we did need to increase one of my diabetes meds at supper time to help lower my fasting numbers. I am still insulin free however...not sure if that will last or not. At that appointment, I asked him when I should be expecting to leave work, and sadly, he told me April 26th (36 weeks). I really wasn't expecting that. In my mind, this baby was only being born on May 10th (38w0d), no other options. I did ask for some clarification and he told me it did not mean that we would necessarily induce right at 36w0d, but he certainly did not seem confident that I would make it to 38w0d. Next appointment, in March, I plan on asking for my paperwork for school...I will try to convince him to write May 9th on there, even though I may have to leave earlier. I would much rather leave earlier than planned (at the last minute) than leave at 36weeks and not give birth until 38 weeks. I only have 15 paid days of leave...3 weeks, and I want to use them after baby, not before.

On the other hand, I am worried about teaching full time. I have been so blessed these last few weeks with a student teacher who teaches my morning classes, I don't know if I will be able to teach the whole day agian once she leaves mid-March. I get so exhausted from walking for more than like 5 minutes these days...lots of Braxton Hicks and cervical pressure..This has gotten really bad the past week or so...I feel so bad for Eliana because I just plain can not hold her while standing for more than like 2 minutes. Sitting, no problem, but standing it just takes too much out of me.

This past weekend, I finally became the "soccer mom". Bought myself a minivan. I have wanted one for a while (well, really, I wanted an SUV, but not as practical). With two car seats in the back of a car, that leaves no room for anyone or anything else back there, plus getting all the gear in the trunk leaves very little room...I am now the proud owner of a 2007 Chrysler Town and Country. Quite nice if I do say so myself.

I made a trade with my babysitter (I really have to stop calling her that..she is definitely so much more than my babysitter, a very good friend really): I gave her my daughter for the afternoon and she gave me her husband and father-in-law. LOL. It was a perfect trade and they got me such a great deal on my van...The final price (including taxes, license, and changing my cloth seats to leather) was still lower than the blue book price..pretty impressive if I do say so myself.

Finally, today I had a growth ultrasound for this little munchkin. He is so different than his sister in so many ways. I have talked about his activity level before I believe which is like night and day between him and Eliana. But, he is also measuring BIG. I mean, Eliana was ALWAYS small on ultrasound, always. And she was small at birth and sadly, she is still small (at least height-wise). But this guy was measuring about 2 weeks ahead! I am still disappointed I have to have my ultrasounds at the regular clinic rather than the perinatalogist because the regular clinic does not tell anything really. At the peri's office, they would give me a printed report if I asked for it, but at the regular clinic you just hvae to be very sneaky and watch the little slider bar with each measurement...(and they dont all have the age equivalent...). Oh well. Baby is doing well, my cervix was long which was a relief after all the cramping I had yesteday, and things look good.

Next appointment: university hypertension clinic next Tuesday.

Thanks for keeping up with me even though I am so slow at updates. I have got to finish cleaning for the housekeepers tomorrow and get to bed..5:00am always comes way too quickly...
